Errors prove costly for Auburndale softball

MARATHON – Marathon scored in all five innings, taking advantage of eight walks and six Auburndale errors to beat the Apaches 14-4 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Thursday

Tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the third, Marathon put four, two and five runs on the board over the next three innings to win via the 10-run rule and improve to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Marawood South.

Kelli Isaacson was 2-for-3 for Auburndale, which was limited to six hits by Marathon pitcher Kayla Stanley, who struck out three and walked five.

Kim Masephol took the loss for Auburndale, walking six and striking out two.

“We definitely were not on with our bats tonight and that carried into the defense,” Auburndale coach Dawn Urban said. “Although the effort was strong, the errors set up back.

Auburndale (3-3, 1-3 Marawood South) plays at Pittsville on Friday.
