Auburndale’s Harrison wins two events at Wood County Meet

PITTSVILLE – Auburndale’s Danica Harrison won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, and Marshfield posted eight victories at the Wood County Track and Field Meet on Tuesday at Pittsville High School.

Harrison grabbed the lone victories for the Apaches, narrowly beating Marawood Conference rival Carli Kronstedt of Pittsville by 0.19 seconds, posting a time of 5:47.98 to win the 1,600. Harrison also won the 3,200 with a time of 12:33.70.

The Marshfield boys had five victories and the girls had three in the meet that also included Port Edwards, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, Marshfield Columbus Catholic, Nekoosa and host Pittsville.

Marshfield’s Jeremy Robinson won the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 4 inches, and teamed with Joel Franseen, Riley Gebelein and Logan Schmitz to win the 400 relay (45.08) and the 800 relay (1:35.18).

Craig Kroggel won the pole vault (11-9) and the 3,200 relay team of Arthur Burkart, Dan Drach, Kyle Meek, Brian Zimmerman won in a time of 8:27.78 for the Tigers’ other victories. Burkart took over the lead on the final leg and held off Wisconsin Rapids for the victory.

The Marshfield boys also had six second-place finishes, led by a pair from Cale Schliesman – 142-1 in the discus and 43-6.5 in the shot put. Josh Hennes (18-6 in the long jump), Dan Kniech (40-3 in the triple jump), Burkart (2:05.11 in the 800) and Todd Vantassal (24.51 in the 200) also placed second for the Tigers.

CJ Castellano tied for second in the high jump (5-6) and Jake Dorshorst was second in both hurdles races (17.01 in the 110 and 44.31 in the 300) for the Auburndale boys’ best performances.

Ben Stassen had the Columbus boys best finish, taking third in the 300 hurdles at 44.56 seconds.

Kelsey Weigel topped the Marshfield girls by taking first in the discus (111-3) by nearly 17 feet, and second in the shot put (32-10).

The Tigers girls other wins came in relays. The 800 relay team of Ellen Stichert, Bisola Omoba, Alexa Fritsch and Weigel won in 1:48.7, and the 400 team of Omoba, Gabriella Myrie, Miranda Snortheim and Nikki Youngblood took first in 52.43 seconds.

Sarah Brandt was second in the 3,200 (12:46.07) and Claire Pinter was runner-up in the 800 (2:38.11) for the Columbus girls’ top performances.

Marshfield also got second-place finishes from Kate Schumitsch in the pole vault (8-6), Myrie in the 100 (13.47), Youngblood in the 200 (28.27), the 1,600 relay team of Amanda Cousins, Jennifer Kaiser, Lisa Kaiser and Schumitsch (4:30.14), and the 3,200 relay team of Sara Fuller, Cousins, and the Kaisers.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

Columbus Catholic will be at the Auburndale Invitational on Thursday, while the Marshfield boys will compete at the D.C. Everest Boys Invite on Friday and the girls will be off until the Wisconsin Valley Conference Relays next Tuesday at the Wisconsin Rapids.
