Marshfield boys basketball upsets Chippewa Falls in WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal

CHIPPEWA FALLS – The Marshfield boys basketball team pulled off a big upset on the road, knocking off No. 2 seed Chippewa Falls 57-34 in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal Friday night at Chippewa Falls High School.

The Tigers snap a four-game losing streak and avenge a loss to Chippewa Falls earlier this season. Marshfield lost at home to the Cardinals 64-48 back on Dec. 30.

No. 7 seed Marshfield (7-16) will play at No. 6 Hudson (10-13) in a regional final at 7 p.m. Saturday. Hudson started the season 5-0 but fell on hard times, losing 10 of its final 12 games before upending D.C. Everest on the road 59-55 in overtime Friday night.

Saturday’s game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.

Seniors Tanner Boson and Caleb Alexander stepped up with their biggest games of their careers.

Boson hit 5 of 6 3-pointers and scored a team-high 22 points, and Alexander as 3 of 4 from 3-point range and scored 15 points for the Tigers.

Marshfield was 17 of 33 overall from the field and 9 of 17 from 3-point range in the win.
