MARSHFIELD – Lexi Dupee singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Jadey Nelson and give the Marshfield softball team a 3-2 nonconference victory over Medford on Monday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Alexis Straughan reached on an error to lead off the seventh, and Nelson, a pinch runner, moved to second on a bunt single by Emily Draeger. Megan Donahue walked to load the bases with two outs before Dupee’s big hit.

Dupee had two of the Tigers’ four hits in the game. Marshfield is now 5-4 this season, while Medford drops to 2-2.

Donahue earned the win, striking out 14 and walking two, for Marshfield.

“Even though we did not play the best defensive game committing four errors, Megan had a great game on the mound and prevented those from really hurting us,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “Offensively we were making good contact, but we’re just hitting the balls at them, and they made the plays defensively. It was a good win to pull out.”

Each team scored a run in the first inning and Marshfield pulled ahead 2-1 when Dupee scored on an error.

Medford tied it 2-2 in the fifth after three straight errors by the Tigers.

Marshfield hosts Wausau East at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Marshfield Fairgounds.
