Newman handles Columbus tennis

WAUSAU – Lucas Michalik won a tough three-set match at No. 3 singles for the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys tennis team’s only victory in a 6-1 loss to Wausau Newman Catholic on Monday.

Michalik beat Adam Hoffmann 7-5, 6-7 (7-2), 6-2.

The Dons lost two matches in three sets. Newman’s Will Luetmer beat M.J. Kim at No. 2 singles 2-6, 6-0, 6-0, and the Cardinals’ Aaron Roland and Ben Vessel defeated Joe Vaske and Augie Viegut 6-7 (7-2), 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Columbus hosts Antigo on Tuesday.
