Marshfield Columbus Catholic track athlete Alexandra Hutchison has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com May High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Hutchison captured 5,661 of the more than 14,000 votes cast.
The Columbus Catholic junior proved unbeatable in the 100 and 200 meters throughout May and finished the month with sectional titles in both events to qualify for the WIAA state meet.
Hutchison had season-best times of 11.92 in the 100 and 24.79 in the 200 at the Stratford Invitational on May 7. She also won both events at the Edgar Invite, the Cloverbelt Conference East Division Meet, and the WIAA Division 3 regional at Marathon. At the Rosholt sectional on May 29, Hutchison won the 100 in 12.43 and the 200 in 25.29.
Hutchison went on to win the 100 and 200 Division 3 titles at the WIAA state meet in La Crosse on June 6.
Other nominees for the May award were Marshfield softball player Emily Draeger, Marathon track athlete Xavier Lechleitner, Marshfield golfer Derek Michalski, and Spencer track athlete Rachel Zastrow.
