Four area track teams compete at Stratford Invite

STRATFORD – Danica Harrison was a double winner again for the Auburndale girls track team, winning the 1,600 and 3,200 meters on Thursday at the Stratford Invitational at Tiger Stadium.

Harrison won the 1,600 in 5:42.61 and the 3,200 in 12:28.90 as she continued to dominate area competition in the two events.

Wausau Newman Catholic swept the two team titles. The girls won with ease by 69 points over second-place Owen-Withee. Marshfield Columbus Catholic was fourth, Stratford fifth, Auburndale sixth and Spencer ninth.

Stratford was second in the boys standings, 35 points behind the Cardinals. Spencer was sixth, Marshfield Columbus eighth and Auburndale 11th.

Kelly Tomforhde had two top-three finishes for Auburndale as well, taking second in the pole vault (9-0) and third in the long jump (15-1 ¼).

Spencer’s Marcie Hebert won the discus (105-9) and was second in the shot put (35-1 ¾) to account for the Rockets’ lone two top-three performances.

Julia Boushon had Stratford’s only top-three finish, taking second in the 300 hurdles in 54.04.

Marshfield Columbus had four second-place finishes. The 400, 800 and 3,200 relay teams all finished second behind teams from Wausau Newman, and Sarah Brandt was second in the 3,200 behind Harrison (12:37.11) and just ahead of teammate Paige Albrecht, who was third in 12:39.83.

Mariah Heiman also had a third for the Dons in the 100 meters in 13.53 seconds.

On the boys side, Stratford had three event wins and three other top-three finishes.

Matt Zuelke won the 3,200 in 10:39.77, Steve Wenzel took first in the 1,600 in 4:47.24 and Ben Robers won the pole vault with a vault of 13-6 for the Tigers on their home turf.

Austin Cole was second in the shot put (45-10 ¼) and third in the discus (129-3), Jake Griffith was third in the pole vault (11-0) and the 400 relay team also was third for Stratford.

Spencer had three second-place finishes: Tyler Kolstad in the high jump (5-8), Bryan Brodziski in the triple jump (39-10 ½) and the 1,600 relay team (3:37.09).

Auburndale’s Jake Dorshorst was second in the 110 hurdles (16.92) and the Columbus 800 relay team was third in 1:36.41 for their team’s best finishes.
