Spencer volleyball finishes second at home invitational

SPENCER – The Spencer volleyball team finished 3-1 and placed second at its home Spencer Invitational on Tuesday as it opened its 2015 season.

The Rockets rallied to defeat Chippewa Falls McDonell 23-25, 25-22, 25-12; lost to Stanley-Boyd 19-25, 25-14, 25-18; and swept Pittsville 25-9, 25-14, and Prentice 25-18, 25-6.

Stanley-Boyd finished undefeated at 4-0 to win the tournament title.

Macie Weber had 28 kills, 10 blocks, and six aces, Sydney Kind had 14 kills, McKenzie Baher had 55 assists, and Jenna Rogers led the defense with 39 digs for Spencer.

“A lot of peaks and valleys – when we moved and talked, things went well,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “To beat a team like Stanley-Boyd we need to clean up our errors. We have a lot to work on before Saturday.”

Spencer will play in the Marathon Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.
