SPENCER – Trailing 4-3, Spencer exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and knocked off Loyal 10-6 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game on Monday at ARC Park.

The victory pulls the Rockets (7-4, 6-3 Cloverbelt East) to within a game of Loyal (7-4, 7-2) for second place in the conference standings. The two teams play again on Thursday at Loyal.

The win also is Spencer’s seventh in its last eight games following an 0-3 start.

Dominique Stange picked up the win, pitching three innings of relief. She walked three and struck out two after replacing Nicki Bruss, who walked 11 in four innings.

Bruss didn’t have her game on the mound, but she made up for it at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBIs for the Rockets. Monica Stange added two hits for Spencer, which had just six in all.

The Rockets are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Owen-Withee on Tuesday.
