PITTSVILLE – Auburndale looked like it was going to secure its second straight Marawood Conference South Division softball victory before everything went array in the sixth inning.

Leading 7-3, the Apaches allowed 10 runs in the sixth to Pittsville and the Panthers ended up with a 13-8 victory on Monday.

Auburndale snapped a six-game losing streak with a win over Edgar last Thursday and the Apaches looked good until the sixth.

Despite walking 10 in five innings, Nicole Nikolay allowed just three runs before being replaced by Kimberly Kundinger. Pittsville roughed up the Auburndale reliever to the tune of 10 runs. Kundinger walked five and allowed four hits, including a double and a pair of home runs. Maranda Kenyon connected on a three-run homer and Courtnee Robus knocked in two with a long ball for the Panthers (7-6, 6-4 Marawood South).

Becky Willfahrt had a home run and two RBIs for Auburndale, which totaled nine hits. Kari Willfahrt, Katie Willfahrt and Kelli Isaacson each had two hits, and Isaacson drove in three for the Apaches.

Auburndale drops to 4-8, 2-8 in the conference and plays at Wausau Newman on Tuesday.
