RIB MOUNTAIN – Stevens Point swept the team titles at the 2015 Wisconsin Valley Conference Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Nine-Mile Forest.

The Stevens Point boys had six top-10 finishes, led by freshman Ricky Perez, who took second in 16:14, 12 seconds behind individual champion Anthony Anderson of D.C. Everest. It is the 28th-straight season the SPASH boys have won the WVC meet title.

The SPASH girls did even better, with seven finishing in the top 10. Wausau West freshman Brooke Jaworski won the individual title in 19:17, 26 seconds ahead of Point’s Autum Shurbert-Hetzel.

The Marshfield girls finished fifth as senior Morgan Irish earned all-conference honors by finishing 15th in 20:32. Dani Bender was 23rd and Sophia Schrodi took 29th for the Tigers.

“Morgan Irish ran well and earned herself a Wisconsin Valley all-conference award,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “The girls put together a solid race today and I am pleased with our team performance today. A number of them had their best time of the season.”

The Tigers boys were sixth and were led by freshman Carter Chojancki (18:24) and sophomore Jordan Dzikowich (18:29), who were 30th and 31st, respectively.

“The boys packed in our top five in just 34 seconds, and that is a key,” Akin said. “We made strides this season being one of the youngest Division 1 teams in the state. We had five boys break 19 minutes, so that is good to see.”

Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 sectional on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Standing Rock Park in Stevens Point.
