Marshfield girls track wins Tomah Invite, boys second

TOMAH – The Marshfield girls track and field team won nine titles and rolled to the team championship Thursday at the Tomah Invitational.

Kelsey Weigel won the long jump (15-6 ¾) and discus (106-9), and also was part of the winning 800-meter relay team along with Gabriella Myrie, Alexa Fritsch and Ellen Stichert (1:49.22). Weigel also was second in the shot put (34-1 ¾).

The Marshfield boys had four titles and came in second in the team standings with 141 points. Tomah won the title with 206 points.

Stichert won the 100 hurdles (16.57) and was second in the 300 hurdles (49.74).

Nikki Youngblood won the 200 (27.95), with Miranda Snortheim second and Myrie third.

Michelle Theisen, who was second to Weigel in the discus, won the shot put with a throw of 37-1.

The Tigers also had two other relay winners. Bisola Omoba, Youngblood, Snortheim and Myrie won the 400 relay (52.29) and Jennifer Kaiser, Kate Schumitsch, Hailey Weiler and Amanda Cousins won the 3,200 relay (10:56.87).

Weiler won the pole vault (8-6) as well for the Tigers, who totaled 178.5 points, 33 more than Tomah.

“We saw what we needed to see tonight to get for the conference meet on Tuesday,” Marshfield girls coach Dan Akin said. “I am pleased with our results tonight being that we haven’t had a meet in nine days. The girls responded well at Tomah.”

Winners for the Marshfield boys were Arthur Burkart in the 800 (2:05.25), Jake Lenz in the 300 hurdles (42.31), Dan Kniech in the triple jump (42-6) and Cale Schliesman in the discus (136-0).

The relay team of Riley Gebelein, Joel Franseen, Logan Schmitz and T.J. Vantassel finished second in the 400 relay (44.65) and the 800 relay (1:33.86).

Craig Kroggel was second in the pole vault (11-0), and Burkart took third in the 1,600 (4:50.73) for Marshfield.

The Tigers will compete in the Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet next Tuesday at Wausau West.
