Marshfield baseball team keeps pace in Valley

WAUSAU – Elliot Ashbeck struck out seven and scattered four hits to lead the Marshfield baseball team to a 3-1 win over Wausau East in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Monday.

The win is the Tigers’ fourth straight and improves their record to 8-13 overall and 5-4 in the WVC. Marshfield is one game behind first place Stevens Point (5-2) and Rhinelander (6-3) with three games left in conference play, including the season-finale at home against Point on May 27. Stevens Point has five games remaining.

Stevens Point plays D.C. Everest (5-3) in a big game for both teams on Tuesday. Marshfield hosts Medford in a nonconference game before playing at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.
