Spencer softball moves into second in Cloverbelt East

LOYAL – The Spencer softball team scored six runs in the first three innings and held off Loyal 6-4 on Thursday to move into second place in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division standings.

The win improves the Rockets’ record to 11-5 overall and 10-3 in the Cloverbelt East as they leapfrog Loyal (8-6, 8-4 Cloverbelt East) in the standings. Spencer plays at Assumption on Friday.

Nicki Bruss had a hit and two RBIs, and earned the win on the mound for Spencer, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out four.

Krystal Weier was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Deanna Szybowicz had two RBIs for the Rockets, who open Division 4 playoff action with a regional semifinal at home on June 1. Spencer received a first-round bye.
