Marshfield’s Ackerman, Twardowski third at Wisconsin Valley boys tennis meet

WAUSAU – The Marshfield boys tennis team had two third-place finishes and four fifth-place finishes Thursday at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament at Wausau East and West high schools.

The Tigers finished fifth in the tournament after placing fifth in the dual meet standings to take fifth overall for the season.

Nick Ackerman beat James Parks of Wausau West 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles and Jacob Twardowski needed three sets to down Sam Mowrer of Wausau West 6-2, 6-7, 6-4, at No. 3 singles for Marshfield’s two third-place finishes.

Jacob Marx at No. 2 singles, Jason Stone at No. 4 singles, the No. 2 doubles team of Dan Bargender and Carter Havican, and the No. 3 doubles team of John Weiss and Zach Ott each placed fifth for the Tigers.

Stevens Point won titles at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, and No. 3 doubles, and finished second in the other four flights to win the team title with 34 points, one point better than Wausau East, which captured the other four individual and doubles titles.

Marshfield will compete in the WIAA Division 1 subsectional at Stevens Point on Monday. Sectionals are Wednesday at Wausau East and West.
