MEDFORD – Kassi Todryk and Allison Gruen scored second-half goals to lift the Marshfield girls soccer team to a 3-1 win over Medford on Friday in a nonconference game.

Courtney Thuman scored at the 16:21 mark, off an assist from Todryk, to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead before Medford tied the score on a goal by Katie Messman 8 minutes later.

The score remained tied until Todryk scored on an assist from Gruen at the 8:14 mark of the second half, and the duo struck again as Gruen assisted on a Todryk goal with 10:30 left to give the Tigers a comfortable cushion.

“We needed this victory as we have played so hard and well as of late but only to lose hard-fought games recently,” Marshfield assistant coach Steve Lindner said. “Today was not one of our best games, but we had enough spurts to gain the victory.”

Sarah Wolff and Katie Marotz led the defensive effort for Marshfield and Naomi Crump had five saves in goal.

Marshfield (3-15-2) plays another nonconference game at Merrill on Tuesday and closes its regular season with a game at Stevens Point on Thursday. WIAA Division 1 playoffs begin June 3.
