Marshfield beats Rapids, loses to Wausau West at WVC volleyball meet

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield volleyball team went 1-1 at the first of two Wisconsin Valley Conference meets on Saturday at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers swept Wisconsin Rapids 25-11, 25-5, 25-8, but lost to Wausau West 25-20, 17-25, 29-27, 25-16, to fall to 2-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference this season.

Stephanie Rhodes had 29 kills, seven service aces and eight blocks to lead the Tigers in all three categories. She also had 23 digs, as did Abby Pritzl. Maureen Cassidy led Marshfield in digs with 38, and Alexa Aumann added 23 kills. Corianne Johnson had 37 assists and Anna Ripp had 35.

Marshfield plays at Wausau East on Tuesday and hosts Stevens Point on Thursday.

D.C. Everest won all three of its matches Saturday and now stands alone in first place in the conference at 5-0. The Evergreens topped Merrill, which was previously unbeaten in the conference, 23-25, 25-10, 25-14, 25-19.
