MARSHFIELD – For much of the second half, Eau Claire North made it extremely tough for Marshfield to score. However, once the Tigers finally got their offense, North was unstoppable.

Eau Claire North scored at least one point on 18 of its final 19 possessions to surge past Marshfield 66-60 in a nonconference boys basketball game Friday night at The Boson Company Fieldhouse at Marshfield High School.

Marshfield (2-4) led 25-21 at halftime after holding the Huskies (2-1) to 33 percent shooting.

The game was tight for the first 10 minutes of the second half. A 3-pointer by Noah Hanson, who led the Huskies with 18 points, gave North a 34-32 lead with 9:18 to go. It was the fifth, and last, time in the second half the lead changed hands.

North pushed the lead to eight after a 3-pointer from Jack Kron and baskets from Hanson and Austin Werdin, who finished with 14 points.

From that point, the teams traded points for more than 6 minutes.

Each team scored every time it had the ball from the 6-minute mark down to when Marshfield’s Alec Hinson missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Tigers made seven field goals in a row and Seth Anderson had a pair of three-point plays, but Marshfield could get no closer than five as North scored on its final 12 possessions. The Huskies made 11 of 12 free throws in the final 5 minutes, including 10 straight, to keep the Tigers at bay.

North also finished with a 30-18 rebounding advantage.

Anderson finished with 15 points, 11 coming in the second half, to lead Marshfield. Hinson and Ethan Posteluk each added 14 points for the Tigers.

Marshfield returns to action Tuesday at home against No. 1-ranked and two-time defending WIAA Division 1 state champion Stevens Point. The game will start at approximately 7:45 p.m. following the completion of the varsity girls game between the two schools, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
