Pospyhalla’s late 3 pushes Columbus Catholic girls basketball past Gilman

MARSHFIELD – Natalie Pospyhalla’s 3-pointer with less than 5 seconds left to lift the Columbus Catholic girls basketball team to a thrilling 42-40 victory over Gilman in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Thursday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Columbus led 26-21 at halftime before Gilman started the second half with a 12-2 run to take the lead.

The lead changed hands several times throughout the second half.

A 3-pointer from Morgan Albrecht gave Columbus a 37-36 lead with 3:30 to go, and each team exchanged baskets before a pair of turnovers set up the final possession.

Albrecht finished with a game-high 17 points and Marissa Immerfall added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Dons (7-2, 4-1 Cloverbelt Conference East Division). Pospyhalla chipped in nine points, including the game-winner, and six rebounds.

Cooper Sherfield led Gilman (2-5, 1-5 Cloverbelt East) with 14 points.

Columbus plays at Greenwood on Tuesday.
