Auburndale boys basketball falls short at Pittsville

PITTSVILLE – Pittsville jumped out to a 10-point lead and withheld a late run by Auburndale to beat the Apaches 57-54 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Tuesday night at Pittsville High School.

The loss drops Auburndale’s record to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the Marawood South. Four of the Apaches’ five losses this season have been by five points or less, with all five by single digits.

Pittsville (7-2, 2-1 Marawood South) led 25-15 at halftime, with the Apaches holding a seven-point advantage in the second half before coming up just short.

Caleb Weinfurter hit three 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 15 points, Luke Olsen added 12 points, and Collin Hawkins had eight points and 12 rebounds for Auburndale.

Auburndale plays at Northland Lutheran on Thursday.
