Four Marshfield men team to win 20-hour relay run

A team of 12 masters runners (all over 40 years old), sponsored by Revel Sports.com and Marshfield Clinic, won the Great River Relay last Saturday.

The relay run took place over 193 miles from Winona, Minn., along the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers, ending at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis.

Members of the team included Mike Bauman, Tom Faciszewski, Greg Kraemer and Steve Frericks of Marshfield.

Other team members were Jay Punke, Perry Dau and Scott Hansen of Wausau, Tim Olson of Stevens Point, John Zupanc of Oshkosh, Eddie Holzem of Appleton, Gregg Robertson of Duluth, Minn., and Marc Gosselin of Portland, Ore.

The overnight relay race was divided into 36 legs, with each team member running three legs ranging between 3 and 8.5 miles each.

A total of 306 teams started in waves beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m. Team Revel Sports.com/Marshfield Clinic started at 4 p.m., battling against the other top teams with the lead changing frequently.

The top three teams during 20-plus hours of racing were separated by less than 7 minutes.

Team Revel Sports.com/Marshfield Clinic finished in 20:09:00 (6:19 average pace per mile), finishing as the overall winner and top masters team.
