Marshfield wins Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Tennis Tournament, repeats as conference champs

WAUSAU – Marshfield repeated as Wisconsin Valley Conference champions with a dominating performance at the 2018 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Tennis Tournament on Thursday at Wausau East High School.

Sam Haessly (No. 2 singles), Calvin Lawler (No. 3 singles), Jared Cordova and Braedon Corteen (No. 1 doubles), Will Fay and Ayush Shukla (No. 2 doubles), and Craig Paulman and Lucas Paulman (No. 3 doubles) all won conference championships for the Tigers.

Marshfield’s Evan Fait (No. 1 singles) and Eric Myklejord (No. 4 singles) were conference runner-up after losing in the championship match.

Combined with its unbeaten WVC dual meet season, the Tigers finish with 94 combined points, 30 more than second-place Wausau East.

Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 subsectional on Monday at Wisconsin Rapids. Sectionals will be Wednesday at Eau Claire Memorial.
