MARSHFIELD – Kellen Delaney scored with 11:40 remaining in the game to provide the winning margin in a 2-1 win for the Columbus Catholic soccer team on Monday against Amherst/Iola-Scandinavia/Rosholt at Griese Park.

The game was tied 1-1 for nearly 30 minutes before the late score pushed the Dons (8-1, 6-0 Central Wisconsin Conference) to their eighth win in a row.

Columbus struck first when Nadim Torbey connected on a penalty kick with 6:40 to go before halftime.

Amherst/Iola-Scandinavia/Rosholt (3-4, 2-2 CWC) tied it on a goal from Carson Sneller in the 50th minute and the tie held until the goal from Delaney.

Kellen Heinzen had four saves in goal for Columbus.

Columbus Catholic returns to action Thursday at Northland Lutheran in an all-important CWC game. Northland Lutheran is one game behind the Dons for first place in the conference standings, with its only loss coming at Columbus 3-1 on Aug. 28.
