Columbus tennis sweeps doubles in loss to Rhinelander

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus girls tennis team swept the three doubles matches but failed to win a set in singles and lost a Great Northern Conference dual meet to Rhinelander 4-3 on Tuesday at Boson Courts.

Maddy Havican and Samantha Kosmicki won a tight three-set match over Sarah Mueller and Roz Hatlen 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 for the Dons at No. 3 doubles.

Columbus’ other two doubles teams – Haley Orella and Angie Seubert at No. 1 and Abby Gotz and Nikki Hertel at No. 2 – won in straight sets.

The Dons’ four singles players failed to win more than two games in any set against Rhienlander.

Columbus drops to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the GNC. The Dons host Antigo in their final GNC dual meet of the season Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County and Oak Street courts.
