STRATFORD – Stratford’s Matt Zuelke won his third major meet of the season, defeating a field of 68 other boys at the Stratford Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday.
Zuelke won going away with a time of 17:34.8, 26 seconds better than second-place finisher Andrew Kaiser of Colby/Abbotsford.
Zuelke’s top finish, along with a ninth-place finish by Derek Hughes (18:53.4), helped the Tigers to second place in the team standings with 64 points. Prentice/Rib Lake won the team title with 56 points, led by a third-place finish by Ben Bromann (18:29.4) and a fifth-place finish by Tyler Enders (18:34.0).
Danny Schubert led Spencer, taking eighth overall with a time of 18:49.4. The Rockets finished eighth.
The Stratford girls were fifth and Spencer was sixth as neither team had a top-10 finish.
Rachel Adank took 11th with a time of 18:03.3 and Megan Skwierczynski was 21st in 18:42.5 for the Tigers’ two top finishes.
Spencer’s top finishes came from Sam Hoeldtke, who was 19th in 18:38.7 and Jessica Ruhbusch, who was 26th in 19:11.3.
Stratford and Spencer will compete in the Smiley Invitational on Saturday at Legion Golf Course in Wausau.
