Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball player Meghan Kibbel has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com October High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award sponsors for the 2019-20 school year are Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards. The monthly award will continue through June 2020, and the winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced July 9.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Kibbel garnered nearly 2,400 of the more than 5,500 votes cast during voting Nov. 1-7.
Other nominees for the October award were: Abbotsford football player Dalton Feddick, Marshfield cross country athlete Eliana Kanitz, Stratford football player Teddy Redman, Loyal cross country athlete Savannah Schley, and Auburndale football player Cooper Weinfurter.
Kibbel, a junior setter, was a model of consistency for the Dons, who reached sectionals for the third time in the past four seasons and won a share of the Cloverbelt Conference East Division title this past season. She had 29 assists in a 3-0 sweep of Rib Lake in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal on Oct. 24, and had 26 assists and 11 digs in the Dons’ 3-0 win over Athens in the regional final on Oct. 26. In a three-game sweep of Gilman in the Cloverbelt East finale, Kibbel had 33 assists, and she had 25 assists in conference wins over Spencer and Greenwood earlier in the month.
