Marshfield boys hockey rips Merrill/Wausau East

MERRILL – The Marshfield boys hockey team scored the game’s first seven goals and rolled to a 9-1 win over Merrill/Wausau East on Tuesday at the Merrill Area Recreation Center.

Marshfield scored four times in the first period and three times in the first 6 ½ minutes of the second to open up a commanding 7-0 lead on its way to its 12th win of the season.

The Tigers are now 12-8-1 overall and even their Wisconsin Valley Conference record at 4-4. Merrill/Wausau East drops to 3-14-1 and 0-9 in conference play.

Nick Urban had three goals, Sawyer Schindler and Ian Haugen each scored twice, Noah Peterson had a goal and three assists, and Payton Smith had four assists for Marshfield.

Evan Weister added a goal and an assist, and Max Heller and Tristan Reismann also had assists for the Tigers.

Marshfield hosts Mosinee on Thursday before playing at home against first-place Wausau West on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
