OSCEOLA – Spencer/Columbus Catholic senior Ashton Ackman and sophomore Treyton Ackman are both going back to the state tournament after earning top-three finishes at the WIAA Division 2 Individual Wrestling Sectional on Saturday at Osceola High School.
Ashton Ackman (38-4) finished second at 113 pounds, losing in the championship match to Tanner Andersen of Gale-Ettrick-Trempeleau/Melrose-Mindoro, 5-1. Ackman will be making his third state tournament appearance of his career.
Treyton Ackman will be returning to state for the second year in a row after finishing third at 120 pounds. Ackman (40-5) won the third-place match over Cole Nelson of Ellsworth, 17-7.
Medford and Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal each had two wrestlers qualify for state, and Abbotsford/Colby had one.
NGL freshman Luke Dux (34-4) won the 106-pound sectional title, beating Tommy Brown of Northwestern, 7-0. Gunner Hoffmann also earned a state spot for NGL, finishing second at 195 pounds. Hoffmann (37-2) lost to Jake Rau of Medford (35-2) in the championship match, then won a second-place wrestleback.
Also making it to state for Medford was Zeke Sigmund (40-6), who took third at 145 pounds.
Carter Grewe (25-6) placed third at 195 pounds for Abbotsford/Colby, pinning Luke Fischer of Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Fall Creek in 44 seconds in the third-place match.
The 2020 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament will be Feb. 27-29 at the Kohl Center in Madison.
