BUFFALO, N.Y. – Sam Mitchell, a 2019 graduate of Marshfield High School, shared the Top Red-Shirt Award for the University of Buffalo wrestling team this season.
Mitchell, a freshman, redshirted this season and finished 27-16 in open tournaments, ranking 16th in NCAA Division I among redshirt 197-pound wrestlers.
Mitchell, a WIAA Division 1 state champion at 195 pounds in 2019, was scheduled to wrestle at the Junior World Team Trials in La Vegas on April 18-26, but the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mitchell shared the Top Red-Shirt Award for the Bulls with Ty Raines.
Buffalo finished the season with a 9-11 dual meet record and a 3-7 mark in the Mid-American Conference.
