MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals opened up its 2020 amateur baseball season with a 5-2 win over the Everest Merchants on Wednesday night at Jack Hackman Field.

The Chaparrals broke open a scoreless game with a three-run fourth inning and added single tallies in the seventh and eighth innings to hold off Everest.

Will Lee, Nate McDonald and Caleb Krommenaker had RBI singles in the fourth inning for the Chaps, giving them a 3-0 lead.

After Everest scored in the top of the seventh, Marshfield answered when Nathan Krommenaker’s single knocked in Hunter Korger. The Chaps scored their final run in the eighth on an RBI single by Al Lalicata that plated McDonald, who led off the inning with a walk.

Marshfield had six different pitchers split up the mound time, allowing just three hits. Kade Lancour earned the win by throwing the fourth and fifth innings without giving up a run.

Marshfield will host Medford at 7 p.m. Sunday at Hackman Field.
