Marshfield Chaparrals pound Pittsville, improve to 7-0

PITTSVILLE – The Marshfield Chaparrals amateur baseball team ran their record to a perfect 7-0 with a 9-1 win over the Pittsville River Bandits on Sunday afternoon at Pittsville High School.

Marshfield scored twice in the first inning, added three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth as it rode the arms of Donavon Brandl, Will Lee and Caleb Krommenakker to victory.

The three Chaparrals’ hurlers combined to allow just fie hits and one run, that coming off Krommenakker in the ninth.

Brandl allowed two hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings while striking out three, Lee earned the win with a 1 1/3 shutout innings, striking out two and giving up just one hit, and Krommenakker picked up the save, striking out five in four innings.

Jason Kurth went 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, Brandl had a single and two doubles, and Shawn O’Connell went 3-for-5 with an RBI for Marshfield.

Victor Gonzalez added a pair of RBIs, and Caleb Krommenakker, Brandl and Luke Wirtz each scored twice in the win for Marshfield.

Marshfield will host Pittsville at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jack Hackman Field before taking some time off an returning to action July 9 at Everest.
