Marshfield Chaparrals baseball rolls to win over Whittlesey in Dairyland semifinals

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals amateur baseball team advanced to the Dairyland League championship game with an 11-3 win over the Whittlesey Reds in semifinal action Sunday afternoon at Jack Hackman Field.

The second-seeded Chaparrals (14-3) advance to play the top seed Everest Merchants in the league final on Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. at Hackman Field. The winner secures a spot in the Wisconsin Baseball Association state tournament Aug. 14-16 in Hayward and Spooner.

Marshfield led the entire way over the Reds, scoring three times in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick lead. After Whittlesey scored two in the second, Marshfield responded with a run in the bottom of the frame, four more in the fourth and two additional runs in the fifth to take control.

Ethan Peters earned the win for the Chaparrals, allowing three runs and five hits while striking out four in seven innings. Kade Lancour finished off the win with two shutout innings in his final outing of the season. Lancour will finish the 2020 season with the Kalamazoo Growlers of the Northwoods League, the Chaparrals announced on their Facebook page Sunday evening.

No. 9 hitter Isaiah Baierl went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Chaparrals offense.

Caleb Krommenakker, Luke Wirtz, Donavon Brandl and Jason Kurth each added two hits, with Brandl driving in three runs, and Krommenakker and Wirtz each scoring three times.

Victor Gonzalez added a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored in the win for Marshfield.

Marshfield will play an exhibition game against Chippewa Falls on Wednesday at Hackman Field, beginning at 7 p.m. prior to the championship matchup on Sunday.
