Auburndale girls basketball holds off Mosinee

AUBURNDALE – Annamarie Aue scored 14 points and the Auburndale girls basketball team held off a Mosinee comeback attempt to defeat the Indians 56-54 in the third-place game of the Auburndale Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale led 29-20 at halftime before Mosinee mounted a comeback that fell just short when a shot at the buzzer to force overtime missed. Both teams are now 7-3 this season.

Georgi Schmutzer added nine points and Kaitlyn Kundinger had eight for Auburndale.

Alexis Freiboth scored 17 points for Mosinee.

Mosinee plays at Crandon on Monday and Auburndale returns to action Tuesday with a nonconference game at Sparta.
