Columbus Catholic boys basketball surges past Assumption

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Grant Olson scored 15 points to lead four Marshfield Columbus Catholic players in double figures as the Dons defeated Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 61-51 on Wednesday at Assumption High School as part of the Cranberry Classic.

Columbus trailed 21-19 at halftime before exploding for a 42-point second half.

Eden Jacobson added 12 points, Gage Stratman had 11 and Sam Wilczek chipped in 10 for the Dons, who are now 6-1 this season.

Nick Leberg had 15 points and Bryson Galbreatch scored 13 for Assumption (0-4).

Columbus’ scheduled game against La Crosse Aquinas on Thursday at the tournament was canceled.

Columbus Catholic hosts Greenwood in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Tuesday.
