Neillsville pulls away late to top Columbus Catholic baseball

NEILLSVILE – Neillsville busted open a tight game with a pair of five-run innings and defeated Marshfield Columbus Catholic 14-4 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball opener for both teams.

Neillsville led 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth before exploding for five runs. After Columbus Catholic scored once in the top of the sixth, the Warriors plated five more runs and finished off the victory via the 10-run rule.

Neillsville (1-1, 1-0 Cloverbelt East) took advantage of 11 Columbus walks and six errors, which led to four unearned runs.

Jonah Zoschke had two hits and four RBIs, and Carrson Mohr had a pair of hits, three runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Neillsville offense.

Brock Bennington had two of Columbus Catholic’s five hits, which included a double, and added an RBI and two runs scored.

Columbus Catholic (1-2, 0-1 Cloverbelt East) hosts Stevens Point Pacelli for a nonconference game at Reeths Field at 5 p.m. Neillsville be at Owen-Withee on Thursday.
