Casperson has five hits as Columbus Catholic softball roll past Spencer

SPENCER – Columbus Catholic scored eight times in the first two innings and pulled away to defeat Spencer 15-5 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game Thursday at Spencer High School.

The Dons scored in five of their six at-bats, scoring five times in the top of the sixth to finish off the game via the 10-run rule.

Sam Casperson earned the win on the mound, striking out four in three innings, and went 5-for-5 with a double and a triple and scored three times for the Dons.

Haley Van Wyhem added two hits and two RBIs, and Autumn Vine added three RBIs for Columbus Catholic (2-4, 2-3 Cloverbelt East).

Cassidee Widmann had two RBIs, and Elexa Post had two hits and scored three times for Spencer (0-8, 0-5 Cloverbelt East).

Both teams will play Cloverbelt East games Friday. Columbus Catholic is at Colby/Abbotsford and Spencer will be at home against Owen-Withee.
