Late run pushes Marathon to win over Auburndale baseball

AUBURNDALE – Jake Sweno single and scored on an error for the game’s only run, lifting Marathon to 1-0 win over Auburndale in a Marawood Conference South Division baseball game Thursday at Auburndale High School.

Marathon pitcher Brock Warren tossed a complete-game three-hitter, striking out seven without a walk.

Singles by Ian Brown in the second and Schuyler Gilhausen in the seventh were wiped out by Marathon double plays.

Warren and Cooper Hoeksema each had two hits for Marathon (9-4, 4-2 Marawood South).

Hunter Wright struck out five in 6 2/3 innings, taking the loss for the Eagles (7-7, 3-3 Marawood South).

Auburndale plays at Nekoosa on Monday. Marathon will be at Prentice on Friday and at home against Northland Lutheran on Monday.
