SCHOFIELD – Noah Barrett kicked a 23-yard field goal with 4:29 to go to lift Stratford to a narrow 9-8 win over Edgar in a nonconference football game between old Marawood Conference rivals on Saturday at Stiehm Stadium at D.C. Everest High School.

Stratford led 6-0 after a 2-yard touchdown run by Kaden Griesmer and that held until the final seconds of the half when Edgar quarterback Mattison Butt connected with Everet Brehm on a 13-yard touchdown pass with four seconds to go. Karter Butt ran in the two-point conversion and the Wildcats led 8-6 at halftime.

Both defenses were stout throughout the game as Stratford turned the ball over three times and was held to 155 total yards, and Edgar had two turnovers and only 63 total yards.

The Tigers put together a drive in the fourth quarter leading to Barrett’s game-winning field goal and they improve to 2-0 this season. Edgar is now 1-1.

Edgar hosts Iola-Scandinavia in a nonconference game Friday, while Stratford will host Manawa in its Central Wisconsin Conference Large Division opener Friday.
