Marshfield football shuts out Appleton West

APPLETON – The Marshfield football team kept its postseason hopes alive with a 21-0 win at Appleton West on Friday night in Valley Football Association action.

The Tigers improve to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the VFA (3-2 with a forfeit win over Wausau East), and must win one of their final two games to make the WIAA playoffs. Marshfield is at Wisconsin Rapids next Friday, Oct. 8, before hosting Stevens Point on Oct. 15.

Franklin Brodhagen recovered a muffed snap on a punt attempt in the end zone with 5:34 left in the first quarter to put Marshfield up 7-0.

The rest of the scoring came in the fourth. Matthew Trulen ran in from the 2 with 9:59 to go, and Trevor Foemmel hit Gavin Fravert for an 18-yard touchdown pass in the final minute to provide the winning margin.

Marshfield’s defense held West to just 163 total yards and just 47 rushing yards on 25 attempts.
