MARSHFIELD – Alex Edwards had a hat trick as Marshfield Columbus Catholic hammered Adams-Friendship 9-1 in a WIAA Division 4 boys soccer regional semifinal Thursday at Griese Park.

The second-seeded Dons (14-1-1) will take their 10-game winning streak into a Division 4 regional final at home against No. 3 seed La Crosse Aquinas (11-5-4) on Saturday at Griese Park. Aquinas defeated Amherst 6-2 on Thursday in its regional semifinal.

The two teams played earlier this season in Marshfield with the game ending in a 3-3 tie on Sept. 11. That was the last time Columbus Catholic did not win a game.

Charlie Moore scored back-to-back goals in a span of 1:10 to give the Dons a quick 2-0 lead just 6:35 into the game.

Edwards scored all three of his goals before halftime, and Sammy Neville and Grant Olson added scores as Columbus Catholic raced out to a 7-0 lead by intermission.

Josh Van Wyhe and Josh Weiland added goals in the second half to make it 9-0 before Adams-Friendship (6-9) scored in the 77th minute.
