Columbus Catholic girls basketball storms back to beat Northland Lutheran at Cranberry Classic

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team ended the game on a 22-2 run over the final six minutes to down Northland Lutheran 62-49 in the third-place game of the Cranberry Classic on Saturday afternoon at Assumption High School.

Northland Lutheran led 31-24 at halftime and maintained its lead throughout most of the second half, going on top 47-40 with six minutes remaining before the Dons turned up the pressure.

Columbus Catholic clawed back to tie the game at 47-47. The Wildcats (0-3) scored their final basket on a layup with 5:28 left and the Dons finished the game on a 15-0 run to improve to 3-1 this season.

Jenna Kibbel made four 3-pointers and scored a team-high 20 points for Columbus Catholic. Courtney Sommer added 14 points and Maggie Callaghan chipped in 10 in the victory.

The Dons will play a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game at Spencer on Thursday.
