Columbus Catholic boys basketball downs Assumption to win Cranberry Classic title

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Sam Wilczek scored 15 points to lead four Columbus Catholic players in double figures as the Dons won the Cranberry Classic boys basketball championship with a 73-62 victory over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Saturday at Assumption High School.

Cole Noreen, Emmitt Konieczny and Blake Jakobi each added 12 points for the Dons (2-0).

Columbus Catholic led 38-24 at halftime and were able to hold off the Royals (1-1) in the second half.

Ryan Shaw scored 18 points and Frank Matott added 10 for Assumption, which opens its Marawood Conference South Division schedule at Stratford on Tuesday.

Columbus Catholic will be off until Friday when it plays at Spencer in its Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener.
