Waupaca hands Marshfield boys hockey its first loss

WAUPACA – Waupaca raced out to a three-goal lead and handed Marshfield its first loss of the season, winning 3-1 in a nonconference boys hockey game on Tuesday night at the Waupaca Expo Center.

Ryan Mace scored late in the first period, and Levi Olson and Sawyer Mielke added goals in the second to give the Comets (3-1) a 3-0 lead.

Marshfield’s Payton Smith scored 3:54 into the third period, but that would be it for the Tigers, who fall to 3-1 this season.

Hagen Rasmussen saved 32 of the 33 shots he faced in goal for Waupaca. Cole Halvorsen had 25 saves for Marshfield.

Marshfield opens its Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule Thursday at Wisconsin Rapids at 7 p.m.
