Stratford boys basketball scratches out win over undefeated Mosinee

STRATFORD – The Stratford boys basketball team knocked off Mosinee from the ranks of the undefeated with a hard-fought 62-58 win Thursday night at Stratford High School.

Stratford improves to 7-1 this season, and Mosinee drops to 5-1.

Mosinee led 36-34 at halftime but couldn’t hold on in the second half as the Tigers pulled out the victory.

The difference came at the free throw line, with Stratford making 21 of 34, while Mosinee was 10 of 18.

Caden Bruesewitz made 11 of 16 free throws and finished with 21 points to lead Stratford.

Ashton Wrensch added 11 points and nine rebounds, and Kaden Griesmer also had nine rebounds in the win for the Tigers.

Davin Stoffel had 22 points and Drake Grod scored 10 for Mosinee.

Stratford will host its annual holiday tournament Dec. 29-30. Wausau East takes on Bangor at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 29, with Stratford playing Owen-Withee at 7:15 p.m. The losers play in the third-place game at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 30, with the winners playing for the championship at 7:15 p.m.
