Undefeated Mosinee starts strong, knocks off Auburndale in title game of Auburndale tournament

AUBURNDALE – The Mosinee girls basketball team jumped on Auburndale early, building a double-digit lead by halftime, and defeated the Eagles 61-46 to capture the Auburndale Girls Basketball Holiday Tournament championship game Tuesday afternoon at Auburndale High School.

Mosinee pulled out to a 35-22 lead by halftime and despite the Eagles making nine 3-pointers in the game, was able to hold on for the victory.

Kate Fitzgerald had 14 points, Jenna Placek added 12, and Adalyn Lehman scored 10 for Mosinee, which remains unbeaten this season at 12-0.

Ashlyn Grimm scored 11 points, Annamarie Aue had 10, and Gracie Krings and Aliah Hamus both chipped in nine for Auburndale (8-2). Grimm and Krings both had three 3-pointers.

Both teams return to their respective conference schedules next Tuesday, Jan. 4. Auburndale will be at Edgar in Marawood Conference South Division action, and Mosinee will host Northland Pines for a Great Northern Conference tilt.
