FOND DU LAC – The University of Marshfield/Wood County men’s basketball team opened its 2010-11 season with a split of a pair of games at the UW-Fond du Lac Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
The Marauders defeated UW-Fond du Lac 68-64 in overtime in the opener on Friday, before losing in the championship game to UW-Fox Valley 86-61 on Saturday.
Jake Scheppler had 18 points and seven rebounds, and Trevor Gorman added 14 points and five assists in the win over Fond du Lac.
Marshfield held a 29-23 halftime lead before Fond du Lac came back to force overtime. The Marauders outscored Fond du Lac 9-5 in the extra period.
Sherman Threets had 39 points and 17 rebounds for Fond du Lac. He was 18 of 27 from the field, while the rest of the Falcons shot just 9 of 34.
Against Fox Valley in the championship game, the Marauders fell behind 36-22 by halftime and gave up 50 second-half points.
Scheppler had 12 points and nine rebounds, and Matt Klieforth and Brandon DeSmet each had 10 points for UW-Marshfield.
Phil Landua led UW-FV with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The Marauders host UW-Washington County in their home opener Saturday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.
