Assumption dominates Columbus Catholic girls basketball in WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Assumption girls basketball team dominated Marshfield Columbus Catholic, holding the Dons to just two made baskets in the game, and rolled to a 49-9 win in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal Friday night at Assumption High School.

The No. 1 seed Assumption (23-3) will host a Division 5 regional final against No. 4 seed Athens (22-4) at 7 p.m. Saturday. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.

Columbus made just one basket in each half and were 5-for-12 at the free throw line to account for its nine points. The Dons finish the season with a 12-13 record.

Ainara Sainz de Rozas had three 3-pointers and scored 13 points, and Kayla Kerkman added eight points in the win for the Royals.
