Stratford baseball sweeps Marawood South doubleheader from Marathon

MARATHON – The Stratford baseball team earned a pair of huge victories in the race for a Marawood Conference South Division title with a doubleheader sweep of Marathon on Thursday at Marathon High School.

Stratford won 7-5 and 4-2 to improve to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the Marawood South. Marathon falls to 4-3 and 2-2 in the conference.

Stratford scored six times in the top of the seventh inning to win the opener.

Jackson Ormond drove in three runs and Dillon Kirsch added two RBI for the Tigers.

The Tigers rallied again in Game 2, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out the win.

Gavin Kirsch had two RBI and Brady Schmidt had two hits in the victory for the Tigers.

Cam Daul picked up the win in each ends of the twinbill, throwing two shutout innings in relief in Game 1 and a complete-game six-hitter in the second game.

Stratford plays a nonconference game at Phillips on Friday. Marathon returns to action Monday when it hosts Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
