Amherst High School senior baseball player Ben Lee has been voted the MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports April High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award main sponsor for the 2021-22 school year is Awards ‘n’ More of Wisconsin Rapids. The monthly award will continue through June 2022, and the winner of the MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports High School Athlete of the Year will be announced in July.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Amherst, Athens, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Iola-Scandinavia, Loyal, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Newman Catholic, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point, Wild Rose and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.
Lee received 1,181 of the 2,802 cast during voting from May 2-9 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the April award were: Marshfield softball player Courtney Donahue, Columbus Catholic baseball player Emmitt Konieczny, Wisconsin Rapids softball player Hayley Wagner, and Stratford track athlete Jaidyn Wright.
Lee, a senior, did not allow an earned run in four pitching appearances for the Falcons during April. He went 4-0, allowing just 10 hits in 16 innings with 36 strikeouts, including 13 in six innings in a 6-1 victory over Wittenberg-Birnamwood on April 21. He also batted .560 with 16 RBI and 11 runs scored as Amherst started the season 10-0.
