Spencer’s Zastrow, Columbus Catholic’s Scheer brothers, qualify for state at Division 3 Mondovi Track Sectional

MONDOVI – Spencer’s Leah Zastrow won the girls pole vault, and Marshfield Columbus Catholic’s Andrew Scheer was runner-up in two events to qualify for next week’s state meet at the WIAA Division 3 Track & Field Sectional on Thursday at Mondovi High School.

Zastrow, a senior, won the pole vault with a vault of 11 feet, 6 inches, to earn a spot at the state meet for the third time in her career and the second-straight year in the pole vault. She be Spencer’s lone entry into the 2022 WIAA State Track & Field Championships, which will be held June 3-4 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Scheer, a junior, was second in both the boys 1,600 meters (4:33.08) and the 3,200 (10:12.19), and will joined at state by his younger brother, freshman Isaac Scheer, who took fourth in the 3,200 (10:17.98).

The top four finishers in each event earned spots to the state meet.

Isaac Scheer finished seventh in the 1,600 (4:48.94) and did not qualify.

Columbus Catholic’s Mira Torbey finished sixth in the long jump (15-7 ½) and failed to reach the finals in the girls 100 and 200 meters.
